weekly suggestion ft coincidence of the week, the duh moment, worst boiler room ever, fela soul, c4[rt], the other guys and more hidden suggestions (scambled eggs life saving remix)

been a while. I'd lost my brain manual for a couple weeks. I just found it maybe. your suggestion for this week is: don't follow hype, hype will follow you. follow lack of hype. takes a bit of an effort but gets you where no hype will ever get you. the biggest geniuses are quiet humble people who just love doing their shit coz it's bigger than them and more important than selling a product. I mean quiet when it comes to talking about themselves and what they do, they may well be loud on other issues. yes this is in context of some amazing shit that recently followed its hype and subsequently got hyped up more. not saying them things ain't good. jus sayin. and it is also in the context of way more amazing shit that goes largely unnoticed unless you dig so dig. by the way if you not into 'conscious' I am wasting your time. jus sayin. no offence to a player but yo I don't play and if you take offence fuck it got to be that way

just realised my stomach was so shrunk I couldn't sit. I completely forgot about food. had nothing since breakfast and haven't thought about it once till now. it's really annoying as I've been doing several things and getting a lot done since back from the boiler room. my worst boiler room experience ever I think - or it would have been if I hadn't gone with good people I like a lot, it was fun. the music was probably quite good too but completely not my vibe. I had kinda known what to expect as I have listened to a lot of hot creations stuff and liked some of it a lot (one's on my favourite club tracks playlist. IG Culture played it guess where, it was awesome. a remix just came out as b-side to this. did I somehow miss it last night? how? naa... ?) but a lot of it not so much and a lot of it is good if it's one track among other things. no variety no fun. no (nice!) surprises no fun. no brain function no fun. this last one I discovered the other day - I've had a couple of revelations if you will (or duh moments if you won't) recently actually - remember gaslamp say he made music not for your body but for your brain? and I went na man it's for my body alright look what it do to it. well, yes I mean no (I actually mean no I mean yes but I wanted to get you to listen to c4[rt]). it is not for my body unless it is for my brain first. this is exactly why few tracks driven by repetitive (machine coded) rhythm work for me. there has to be something else that makes a track, can be subtle but has to be brilliant has to take me on a trip somewhere. I don't dance to steady rhythm, not for long anyway I get bored and stop dancing if there is no other more interesting one there. not enough of that tonight. like I said this gig was not for me. there were too many people there for my liking too. ok I am fussy as fuck sue me. I feel quite comfortable saying stuff about boiler room that is critical rather than my usual hysterical eulogies coz I have done and no doubt will do many hysterical eulogies on the subject. best party in town if you ask me hands down (I do prefer small intimate parties to big warehouse ones and bedroom DJing/dancing over club nites, so don't listen to me if you don't). just like jazz re:freshed is best jazz night, gillet square is best place to hang out (if u know not to overdo it, unfortuntely overdoing it can be very interesting indeed. I may tell you more about it one day. probably not) and mama vic's curry goat/ fried plantain with mama vic's sauce best things you can take away around there if you really hungry/peckish. and sweet fennel and nettle is best herbal tea, good for everything. jus so you know. do correct me if I'm wrong dontchano. so yeah... I forgot to eat which would not be a problem, I am way past hungry but I need to stay up a bit more, I seem to be on a good roll but sitting is kinda painful. sweet fennel and nettle tea is good for everything though. so it's all good.

coincidence of the week: this is exactly what I have been thinking I need to do throughout this evening/morning and I find it (not read it yet, fuck knows if I do) while going thru the 50 open tabs. no idea where it came from. maybe I can train my brain to let me close tabs. I need to work on my external memory/storage it's vast and awesome but it's a bloody mess. I am slowly giving up on the internal.

October 2012 has been one of the best months ever after all. just like I'd said it would. what I didn't foresee was that I wouldn't be able to see it till the very end coz I'd be down and lost. so I didn't jinx it did I I jinxed me. is this what always happens then? is my superpower not a real superpower? I mean, being able to turn things into shit or make them not happen just by having high expectations is supernatural if fucked up. turning yourself into shit don't much sound it...... it's not though. what always happens. I don't often get so down. I don't often get so broke. I don't often get scared. like barely never ever. can't deal with this shit have no practice. but hey, I do have the most fucking annoying superpower tho jus need to keep training my brain on how to use it. stakes is high and has just gotten higher.
my alarm just went off. I've done more in the last 7 hours than whole week last week and I spent the last 7 hours with dabrye. been a while.

must be horizontal or die. have a nice day

best friends and brothers. Murs and 9th Wonder's final adventure

and the winners in the how to create the mixedest feelings possible category are Murs and 9th Wonder.
the two team up again, apparently for one last time. The Final Adventure is due to drop next month and the first track released tells it all.

it's been a epic saga a tale a two friends two men with a passion for they craft met in North Carolina and they started on this path they had some laughs made a lotta cash they would fight a little bit but they would put it in the past and as time passed they became brothers and they never let the game make them turn against each other one did beats one did rhymes and once it was complete then they knew that it was time. they said that all good things must come to an end the wire the sopranos seinfeld and friends tha's all folks that's all that she wrote it's over and it's finished we gon end it on a good note

can't get over how sick this track is. or that the album drops next month. or that it's to be the last one. 8 years of 50 great tracks no doubt to be enjoyed for years to come. funny thing I thought about the wire as a good comparison before I realised it was there in the lyrics!! hey they free to change they mind dontchano, but if it really is over and finished you can be sure they gon end it on a good note.

The Final Adventure by Murs and 9th Wonder releases November 13th on?? Ima break my golden rule and buy this one without listening to it first (I'm guessing there will be no preview, but this is not a time for a rant) like barely NEVER EVER. but hey av stolen the first four and loved them - least I can do

also 9th Wonder & Buckshot's colab album The Solution is meant to drop round the same time

also also, if you haven't yet, check out Murs and Fashawn's This Generation album came out last month

Roses Gabor *****

I like Roses Gabor. her new single Stars though... the beauty of her voice is simply wasted on a small meh song, chopped up the way was cool the first fifty times but has since become barely bearable and the production for me, is just trushy. genre-bending? ye pretty much everyfuckingthing is these days duh.. I've never been a fan of Redlight he makes my least favourite type of dance music unoriginal uninspired and yeah trashy so it's no surprise that I find the whole thing humourless, pointless and annoying. it is a real shame tho, Roses can do and deserves so much better. I'm definitely not listening to it on no bus and hope I won't have to in no club (unlikely). maybe the b-side's better. let me say this again the girl can do better.

remember this?

Gummy Soul Forces

I may have mentioned Gummy Soul once or twice or proposed to Amerigo Gazaway re Bizarre Tribe and Fela Soul two dope projects they put out earlier this year, who keeps track? case you missed it though here's a good excuse to mention them again and suggest you go through the back catalogue. will put butter in your eyes and bring your grill out, for a good while. promise.  go.

here though Amerigo flips a verse over Clear Soul Forces' Get No Better. no it don't. wouldn't mind being in that car...

I love documentaries about music from Ditroit seen quite a few good ones. I actually love all D documentaries, though some are heartwrenching, few places I've not been to cause me so much emotion for some reason, all the abandoned buildings I guess. but it all starts and ends with music

It does something to you internally I fill like the weather really fuck wicho mood if it's fucking cold and brisk all the time that will make somebody cold and brisk all the goddamn time. ya man. add to that the marrow chilling humidity and it's exactly what I've been saying about the Flake town.

I'm still going D though

BLACKHOUSE

one of my favourite producers, vocalists and people Georgia Anne Muldrow and DJ Romes of Lootpack are BLACKHOUSE

Mello Music Group is proud to present Georgia Anne Muldrow & DJ Romes' newest musical incarnation, The Blackhouse. Blackhouse's eponymous LP is a powerful manifestation of soulful dance music. As the title implies, the project draws much from the house realm filtered through a hip-hop lens. This is music to move you both figuratively and literally. Playing like a party from beginning to end, Georgia's immaculate combination of playing and programming is accentuated by Romes' pristine cuts.

This is not chamber music and it doesn't exist in a vacuum either. Anyone familiar with Georgia Anne Muldrow is aware of her Afro-centricity and free-thought ideals that permeate her work. Blackhouse does not lose these key aspects, it reconfigures them to buttress the pulsating beats, creating a dance record with an IQ. Tracks like "BLACKHOUSE" and "SOMALI" make use of concise vocals to deliver poignant messages while keeping bodies moving in the tradition of Theo Parrish or Moody Man. Clearly influenced by Afrika Bambataa and The Soulsonic Force, Kraftwerk, DJ Omega, Knights of the Turntable, Frankie Knuckles, and Kurtis Blow – the album takes us back to a time where hip-hop, house and funk were inextricably and immediately connected, Georgia Anne Muldrow and DJ Romes' Blackhouse is an unconventional and inventive musical experience.

out now. another dope one from Mello Music Group. fOnkie Journey is a free download

DUH moment of the No Nu Music week ft MYSTRO MYSTROGEN

Mystro's Mystrogen is out on i****s case u use it (geddit?), good excuse for a post.

do watch the video it's brilliant be warned you may  wanna close your eyes briefly between 1:20 and 1:36 if you're weak stomached, or [spoiler alert:] just don'l like seeing people chopping off limbs

not that I need an excuse. it's been No Nu Music for a couple of days now which initially makes me a lil nervous like I'm losing the plot and it somehow matters but it's actually pretty cool. been listening repeatedly to stuff I discovered and loved over the past few months and loving most of it more. so, I don't know, the more I think I have to say the less I seem to have to say so hard to tell but I'm feeling like writing and digging out some wannabe posts about stuff I discovered and loved over the past few months regardless of whether already wrote about it or not. or not, who knows. I barely never ever keep promises here I know it's like a spell. [like itsnevergonnawork. my life is full of fucking spells for a reasonable sane person I admit but it's not me this shit just happen. you know what someone called me a witch last night - a really funny story actually but neither here nor there - still I am a witch. I can turn things into shit and make things not happen fo sho] like I said.the more I think the more dumb I seem. either way it's all good.

I've been dreaming of cake for days now. can someone bake or buy me some nice gluten-free home made cake thank you please?

The Coup - "The Guillotine" and the London gig

29 Oct is just a couple weeks away and I'm just shy of running around weeing myself outa excitement. can't remember ever having a dream bigger than to see the Coup live and it's about to come true so forgive me for sounding a wee hysterical. ye I no it's on a Monday, in a Goldsmiths' student bar (right?) in New Cross but if u alive on 29 be there Ldn hip-hop lovers and anyone else who cares about this motherfucker of a world or be square. seriously if this is not one of yr best gigs of 2012 I'll personally give you your money back

get your tickets here quick and enjoy the new video just came out. another completely mad one. just think what Sorry to Bother You the movie is gonna be like. shiiiii... If I could get more excited which would prolly be dangerous I would.

BAMBU ...one rifle per family

ye. so. while I'm struggling to edit out the hysteria out of this post why don't you go listen to Bambu and find out for yourself why ...one rifle per family is a strong contender for my hip hop album of the year.

now go and upset the set up

Pugs Atomz "Back in the Go" EP

So Pugs has gone back to Chi. I say good for him - been having a bit of a beef with the big Flake as you might have noticed though I try my best to delete most of it from posts and life. I love Ldn wouldn't be here otherwise but for the past year I've been watching closely what it does to people. I don't know maybe every big western city is like that. no love city. anyways anyways. just like my sixth sense was telling me he would Pugs releases a new EP. Yaay! I love it. and the artwork. and the hats n all. enjoy

SUBSTANTIAL Grateful (feat. Kenn Starr & Kokayi) prod. M-Phazes

Oddisee's Mello Music Group are giving away this really rather nice joint by Substantial featuring a verse by Low Budget Crew's Kenn Starr and a beautiful hook by Grammy nominated vocalist Kokayi produced by Melbourne's M-Phases. be grateful.

beautiful positive hip hop keeps dropping all over the place. good times. a nu golden era?
if I don't write about Bambu for one more day can somebody slap me?

THE OTHER GUYS. THE OTHER ALBUM.

I haven't yet gotten over the yes, excellent Joe and Insanate’s Excellent LP that came out in April (though I only discovered it a couple of months ago) meanwhile The Other Album is out and it's no disappointment no sir. The Other Guys, two cousins from DC, producer Joseph “Mighty Joe” Myles  and emcee Isaiah "Insanate" Mensah, apparently call what they do 'alternative hip hop weirdo soul’. don't know about weirdo, doesn't sound weird to me but it sure is different and it sure is good good. soulful and jazzy with contributions from local jazzmen Tony Washington, Peter Lewis, James Morris and Mighty Joe himself on the piano and with some tight intelligent lyrics, the album's one of the best things around n a free download too. don't sleep on this one people shit is beautiful

also they team up with one of my favourite rappers a fellow DMC dweller Substantial on this one. nice

also also check out P.SO' s So Enormous produced by The Other Guys off his new modestly titled upcomng album Gateway to Greatness. we'll see about that soon. I'm not a huge fan of the strings on this one I have to say. then again I'm not a huge fan of strings period.

KUTMAH the new error 3

I wouldn't no what to do with a CD but if you do I strongly rcommend you buy this one!

I love Kutmah dontchano. he's one of the best DJs around and one of top reasons why London is a good place to be though ironically he himself is not here out of choice.
It must be really hard for Justin McNulty to adjust to the cold and mostly heartless town of London having been suddenly wrenched out of his entire adult life, tight fam and an amazing music scene he practically created in LA not to mention the weather. I'm serious. I strongly believe in the importance of weather in people's bahaviour, mental state and quality of life and the climate is I think one of the factors when it comes to why London is so fucked up. I constantly dream of getting out of here even though it has a lot of things going for it and for me. and so, I'm pretty sure, does Justin.  but for now he's stuck and is one of the biggest blessings this town does not deserve or appreciate enough. I sure do appreciate it though and looks like my juju thinks I deserve it too because I get to see and listen to this visionary selector and master mixer - a tru dj's dj for want of a better phrase - all the time. he never seems to headline anything but is often there in the lineup for many of the best (far as I'm concerned) nights in town and his set will always be one of if not the highlight of the night. zero hype, zero self promotion, quiet and self-effacing but a genius nonetheless. like I said both his sellection and his mixing are top notch up there with the bestest so go and buy this CD of which there are only 300 copies and enjoy.

also listen to Kutmah's weekly Sketchbook Radio show every Wednesday 7pm on NTS, one of the best radio stations in town

Czeslaw Niemen - Z listu do M. Opolopo Warsoul Refix

big up OPOLOPO, big up Warsoul and Maceo Wyro for bringing back the biggest vocal talent in Polish history.

I grew up with Czeslaw Niemen, there was a bit of a quiet cult of his vocal genius going on in my family, often when one of the vinyl records on or when he appeared on TV, my mom would go on about how genius he was how beautiful his voice how increadibly wide his scale and how every sound he ever made was always in tune. it seemed strange to me then coz my mom couldn't sing and when she did it was in a small voice, out of tune and quickly cut short. bwoy do I know what I am talking about, it doesn't seem strange to me any more... it's since become obvious I take my singing abilities after my mother and it doesn't appear to have much to do with the hearing abilities thank god. my dad was not much of a talker but he played records (until I took over, then my brother) and loved Mr Niemen. who didn't? there must have been people who hated him I guess, the radical nonconformist he was, but I never met any. everything was original and spectacular about the man. he had an all encompassing unique style, a true free spirit shining bright, effortlessly.

three generations of women in my family (my dad did too by then long elsewhere) mounrned the death of this extrvagant visionary when cancer took his larger than life presence away from us in January 2004 leaving a huge gap.

rest in POWER Czeslaw Niemen Wydrzycki. thank you for beng such a big influence on my life

LV - "Ultando Lwaka" [ft. Ruffest]

LV is one of my most frustrating always almost but never quite abandoned forever drafts. I've been having a thing about LV for a couple of years now, since 38 came out, still one of my favourite EPs of all times, and then Routes (which completes my top 3 of 2011 if u been paying attention hehe though the list is actually top 4 so. 1 to go), so I went through back catalogue and been following since (made so much easier by them joining hyperdub, one of the dopest labels I follow anyway) and basically dig almost everything they ever done that I know of. posted a thing here and there and then really wanted to write about sebenza and really have, quite a lot maybe, I'v not looked at that draft for a while it scares me. meantime it came out and there were all those reviews and interviews and reviews of interviews and nu tracks and I started reading and listenng instead of writing and my head exploded leaving me with two thoughts. 1. I love sebenza, which I had known since way before it came out and I know now again, now that its not a daunting monolith surrounded by hype but particular tracks with vocalists I really dig and producers I had been counting on and was right to. 2. can't remember... something about .. ah! they interview silly. if you into playful siliness - which I am big time with fam in the real - had by other people with their friends, they are a lot of fun. three thoughts actually 3. they keep coming up with dope stuff bless them! I mean it

here's some newish dopeness from the masters of dubs and the gorgeous Ruffest bois who's voices make my knees soft the way Brian Brewster's does. tru story.

Pugs Atoms. that's what's up

I've not been very well these days on top of stressed and knackered but my sixth sense has been sharp and all over the place. a song or a line plays in my head for no reason reminds me of an artist I go and check and boom boom album out, new video out, new track leaked, dope remix, new collab (or is it some sort of conspiracy involving everyone I lovenrespect to kill me with killer dope stuff now at this minute?) not to mention things appear in print and on screens front of me once I think them. I know these things happen to everyone it's just they happen to me a lot and at the moment above 'normal'. and this year It's been more than just coincidences it's dreams come tru one after another one more fantastic than the next.. and October? fuck me

I seriously need to buy some time to listen to all the awesome shit falling on me like tropical rain or the stress of not spending enough of it on alltheongoingprojects let alone notstarvingtodeath will kill. yeah right
