Mndsgn. bed. now

I barely never ever feel like someone said exactly what I'd want to say about something but in this case I do so copy paste fom one of my favourite blogs: 'On the Bandcamp page for his newest release, Los Angeles producer Mndsgn tagged bed with but a few adjectives: “experimental” and “bedtunes”. These descriptors would lead you to believe that there’s a mellow, otherworldly air coursing through the veins of this EP. Well, yeah, that and a healthy dose of some kind of drug, because bed sounds like a miniature spaceship journey through the mind. Or maybe I’m the one who’s tripping balls, but these cuts are psychedelic and loose to the point of becoming something other than, you know, beats.'

It sure kept me from going to bed. and I was determined. this evening has not gone according to plan. dontchano...

Saneyes. good name

I'm impressed. both by the cuts and the visuals. you know when you see someone and think something's right about them and you'll probably like everything else they do and like? like you somehow convinced you have similar tastes in general based seemingly on just one impression or one particular thing? and then you go and check them out and discover you were right what knows why, how. I get that sometimes. I had that feeling when I saw Saneyes dj at .... jazz re:freshed ....duh

Adam Mansbach and J.Period present RAGE IS BACK the booktape mix

[draft]
ok this is a draft but it's the least messy one out of the 61 I've got going and I'd decided I wasn't gonna go bed tonight till I've turned one into a post and it's 6:30 my back hurts I've no weed left or even tobacco, eaten too much brownie already and drunk too much sweet fennel and nettle tea n my eyes sting n been on twitter instead of turnng anything into anything anyway so there you go good morning..
Rage Is Back the sicko mixtape by J.Period, a companion to Rage Is Back the sicko book by Adam Mansbach is out. you may've listened to Black Thought and Common's joints and been anticipating the release like me or not either way it's out go get it. I'm half way through the book and the soundtrack is just what's been missing. ok not really (the only thing missing when it comes to sound is more time to fit more tracks. plus you can't really listen to the mixtape and read the book at the same time I no I've tried) but it's dope. I used to be able to read a book in a day, or two. now it takes me a month to read one, or two. where does time go?? anyways I've not liked a narrative or loved  characters and language this much since Oscar Wao. other than The Famished Road which I've been reading for years, very very slowly and am not planning on finishing any time soon but it's so different it somehow doesn't ... hang on actually maybe it does, maybe it is a great comparison and maybe it's not that different the magical realism the spirits the hallucinations and the changes. damn I am now convinced Mansbach was inspired by Diaz and Okri...

some time later.....:

so. I finished the book now. you know when the trains started pulling in and people were reacting in different ways and someone said 'They are all like that' I got so emotional I could have started crying. like I was there a part of it like it was my cause. kinda ridiculous I know but there you go. I love when an artist - writer, actor, director, musician, anybody - makes me feel like crying because of the beauty of what they have created rather than because they planned a soppy scene like for example the other day I went to see les miserables and had tears streaming down my face while thinking this is some lame shit. that pisses me off.. anyways anyways Mansbach's characters have become real people for me, and the plot as surreal n reality bending n fucked up as it is feels like something that really happened and I will want to revisit it like you look at pictures or watch videos of exciting things you were part of. this is partly because of the subject matter, graffitti is one of those things I must have been involved in in previous life or someshit because I have inexplicably strong feelings about it.  but it is also down to how Adam Mansbach builds characters, creates moods and images and the language, which is massively important for me and made me buy the book straight away after reading the first chapter or two that were available for preview. it's the kinda book I'd want to write if I wanted to write a book which I don't and haven't since I done that creative writing course (tho the fact that the book I am now looking at sat between d keyboard and screen is called Is there a book in you? may wanna belie that. it's shit by the way) I have no time to read books I want to read once these days but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna read Rage Is Back again. shit is beautiful. makes me wanna write books.

lucky I have nothing to write about. fuck even that's not tru any more. been hard to keep up lately.

K-Def. ONE MAN BAND

I want it. bad.  spent quite some time today staring at the $35.99 figure and hovering over the [Complete my purchase] button knowing I wouldn't be able to bring myself to click on it but would probably come back and hover some more all the same. and hope that somehow, someday, miraculously American postal services will get a grip and stop wanting to charge me 20 fucking bucks for shipping of one fucking record, which is by the way more than that record costs which is RIDICULOUS. this happens with every K-Def release. yep I want them all. this happens with almost every Redef release. ye I've said that before. I love repetition

meanwhile free download. on repeat

imagine if the Fudgemunk decided to release something new.. I'd cry.. or mention my birthday next month. one of the two. or both.

Substantial - Resilient (Marcus D Remix)

You may well know already what I think about Baltimore's Stan Robinson but I'll tell you anyway. the man's fucking Substantial. Resilient, produced by Eric Lau had already been one of my favourites from the 2012 Home Is Where The Art Is album, but Seattle producer and the other half of Bop Alloy Marcus D jazzed it up a lil and took it on another level. shit is beautiful. download it free off of the awesome Mello Music Group's bandcamp page and enjoy!

also look out for the new upcoming Bop Alloy album which, in the words of Marcus D, will be 'on a different level lyrically and sonically'.

JAGA JAZZIST LIVE WITH BRITTEN SINFONIA

when it comes to anything jazz, live it's where it's at and a live album, far as I'm concerned, is the second best thing to actually experiencing a great performance first hand. when it comes to the formidable Norwegian 9 piece Jaga Jazzist live is completely fucking mad, if you've ever experienced the madness, you'll probably be quite excited to hear that they've just announced a live album and not just a live album but a live album with an orchestra, all the music written from scratch especially for this collaboration . JAGA JAZZIST LIVE WITH BRITTEN SINFONIA  will be released on May 6th on ninja tune.

weekly suggestion featuring CDR Berlin workshop with AYBEE

NME, Metal Hammer and The Fly among UK music print publications that have seen a marked drop in readership over the last six months. DUH..

on other news: lots of good and great (mainly online duh again) publications - there must be hundreds of thousands - are fine. and so is the live scene trus me. and so are music outlets and even record sales. independent artists, labels and promoters keep popping up like mushrooms after rain..
music is having the time of its life. if you are involved but not having it, can't see it and see only reasons to whine and bemoan you are doing something wrong. change perspective.not saying it's an easy ride, it's not meant to be - follow your vision, put your arse into it and everything else will take care of itself. no it won't. you have to take care of every fucking thing or let other people help you. they are out there I promise go find them. there. yo weekly suggestion, been a while.

on repeat: Blue Daisy presents Dahlia Black - Fuck A Rap Song

Blue Daisy and Hey!Zeus are Dahlia Black and it's a really rather black dalhia. it sure is sick too and the video is no healthier. out on 37 Aventures

been following Daisy for a while. I remember his debut album being described somewhere as disturbing yet highly enjoyable or something along these lines. I personally don't find dark disturbing - not a fan of major key nahmean. either way I enjoy it very much. brain music. my kinda dark. disturbs you or not it's an intense and emotional experience, deep and engaging. it's quite rare for me to like the sort of music that makes people use words like 'cinematic' and 'soundscapes', but that's I gues more to do with people than music.. anyways anyways

There's never really a grab for your attention in any of the tracks ... they're long and winding affairs that wait for you to come to them. As such, you might think of the album like an evolving filmstrip that changes with each frame and has new narrative details coming in at every turn, right up until the end. Each track tells a tale, basically. this is an excerpt from a review of a completely different album by a different artist (er..yeah..) but I find it perfect. it's an introspective album and it's a great pleasure to look into Daisy's mind, preferably while stoned as the sounds become almost tactile.

Mark de Clive-Lowe & the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra - Take The Space Trane

think I may have posted about this already but the album is out now so it's a good excuse to do it again. not that I needs one you knows what I thinks about repetition.

so ye, out on tru thoughts: Rotterdam orchestra's big grooves via the brilliant mind of Mareczek as the most dedicated fans of his I know call mr. de Clive-Lowe. if you like this sort of thing you will like it no doubt.
