weekly suggestion ft Robin Williams: care and show it

Robin Williams killed himself and everybody is talking about it. big publications I follow, small publications I follow, obscure publications I am discovering and lots of people are posting about it, commenting, disputing. emotional reactions por todas partes.

the reason? I say it's that nearly everybody realises consciously or subconsciously, viscerally, that depression is not Someone Else's Problem. It can happen to anyone and it happens to a lot of people.

yep. severely depressed people, some of whom on occasion consider suicide are about, you almost definitely know some, it's very likely that there are some among your friends. your gloomy friends who seem to be down a lot lurking in their bedrooms wallowing. but also yo happy go lucky joker friends, the craziest funniest happiest people you know, life and soul of the party types. It is not unlikely that you yourself suffer from it more or less often, more or less severely.

I say depression - like practically any other mental condition is on a scale and everybody is on it.

so long and thanks for getting everyone talking about depression Robin Williams. let's hope all those tributes, voices, speculations and a massive surge in viewings of your films is not where it all ends. that people take note.

it's a common illness and it is a bitch. in extreme cases it can be life threatening, it is always debilitating, makes you feel really fucking lonely and helpless and it can be helped. by real friends who really care and really show they really care.

yo weekly suggestion is: care and show it. love is the answer. real love is empathy.
