Robert Glasper – Black Radio Recovered: The Remix EP
Robert Glasper – Black Radio Recovered: The Remix EP Tracklisting
1. Afro Blue feat. Erykah Badu [9th Wonder’s Blue Light Basement Remix feat. Phonte]
2. Black Radio feat. yasiin bey [Pete Rock Remix]
3. The Consequences of Jealousy feat. Meshell Ndegeocello [Georgia Anne Muldrow’s Sassy Geemix]
4. Twice [?uestlove’s Twice Baked Remix feat. Solange Knowles & The Roots]
5. Letter to Hermione (feat. Bilal) [Robert Glasper and Jewels Remix feat. Black Milk]
6. Dillatude #2
I don't think there is anything one can add to this track listing other than maybe: I saw this half an hour ago and still can't close my mouth. other than maybe: fetch me my smelling salts
I mean .... ... is this a dream? is this my dream? Black Radio was already a masterpiece without 9th, Phonte, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Questlove+Roots and Pete Rock.
If I was to make up this list this is it. can't think of one change to it. it is a dream isn't it?
Robert Glasper Experiment and guests at fucking i****s festival
I'd known for a long while this was going to happen but
I guess I must have till the last moment been hoping I somehow got
that twit wrong a month or so ago, because when Mr Robert
Glasper said we got Phonte on the bill my heart sank. actually
it was more like someone hit me in the stomach. you know the kinda
blow you expect and tense up for which makes it hit you harder.
yyyep, now I've opened Pandora's box the hysteria is out. si senor.more will be unleashed very soon on the subject, I promise, from
the fat pipe as we say where I'm from. I shall tell you all about how
I felt (and am still feeling) about the possibility (now a done deal)
of not seeing Phonte live on 23 September at the Roundhouse but for now, I will leave you with the
mindboggling and heartwrenching G-ness of Robert Glasper Experiment
and their guests.
Robert Glasper Experiment: Casey Benjamin, Derrick
Hodge, Mark Colenburg
featuring Lionel Loueke, Alan Hampton and yeah Phonte Coleman
he stole your style! you fucking wish..

THE DEMON'S CAROL by Dj Quik & Kurupt
I'm not getting too
excited until it's officially confirmed but it looks like a follow up
to the BRILLIANT 2009 Quik and Kurupt collab album BlaQKout
may be in the making. fingers crossed. here's (hopefully) the first
joint they put out and just like much of BlaQKout it's hard like two day old
shit. oh and it's really rather not for weak stomached
this post has been living a life of its own for a few days now in good company of numerous forever drafts about my heroes and crashes, lyrical geniuses and killer beats. the more I like the less I am capable of editing out the hysteria and silliness. this is why I barely never ever write about the luv of my life: hip hop. I can't help but gibber like a schoolgirl on lucozade. fuck it. I love you Dj Quik. fuck the world.
some people you just
know you can count on to deliver killer dope every time. I know
I can count on Dj Quik. The Book of David was one of the best albums of 2011, if somehow you don't know it, go know now. he's permanently pissed off,
arrogant, cocky and boastful but then, he is also one of the
badest motherfuckers that ever fucked with rap music yezzir. do I
have a crash on Dj Quik? hell yeah.
the guy is one of the
greatest (and most underrated) producers I know, his
distinct beat making justly revered by many and the list of
collaborators and artists he produced tracks for endless, and
one of the greatest (and most underrated) lyricists I know. his
flow is sick. he has a word play
acumen and he's had it since when you were in grade school watching the
janitor vacuumin. his secret? just do something that ain't nobody ever done before but make it sound like something that's always been there forever. easier said than done but not for motherfucking Compton's own David Marvin Blake.

KWABENA
I almost gave up on this post when I read Gabriel Benn aka Tuesday Born say that his only-song-for-rest-of-life song was Umboorella (an integral and important part of my idea of hell). ok not really coz the post was pretty much finished and I love the artwork above. ok not really coz yes really I dig the music.(edjit: plus of course it was a joke hope no one is as slow and gullible as me and believed it)
a composer, jazz pianist, vocalist and producer, his music - what he calls afro electronica - at 21 feels as mature as it does natural. the blend of electronica and african/afrocaribbean rhythms is the exact opposite of rare these days, so is the 'went to (pick a non western country) and came back to release trip influenced music' scenario. what is rare however is the seamlessness of and organic feel to the fusion, how naturaly effortless these multilayered soundscapes feel and how original. in the words of Audio Doughnuts: blurring the lines between ‘world’ sounds and electronic music, the soulful, African-inspired electronica he creates fits no niche yet appeals to many ears for its technical finesse and eclectic sound palette. quite
KWABENA, due out on 8/10 on AD, is a beautiful, Ghanaian influenced, soulful jazz infused showcase of this skill and a gem of a track
did I mention beautiful? almost painfully so. this track has Soul!
also check out the Mockingbird EP came out earlier this year. that shit beautiful also, quite dancefloor oriented too
buy it. buy it! I think I will. lemme jus sell somink first [wavering between resigned sigh and bitter laughter]
also also check out The Busy Twist of which Mr Tuesday is half.
their Friday Night EP will be out next week on Soundway records

on repeat: gloryholes 2 by DJ Juan Data
don't really need more reasons to hate horrible music (was greeted by ooh la la la I love you babe on the way from the airport) but heres a good one. check. this. out.
love the comparison of the big hole in a 45 and the so-called glory holes in walls of public toilets/porn booths! tho the images it conjures I'm not that sure about and may keep to myself..... or draw and post later one of the two
whoooa! yep. 7" only and mostly new releases
and guess what wax lovers (not that you need to it's in the mix) he's got one out too with Dub Snakkr as Bondi Blaster. Salchichón Primavera is the first vinyl release for their new little label Stronghold Sound and it's pretty damn nice. much like everything they've been putting out far as I can tell. I've been taken hostage by DJ Juan's soundcloud... I don't exactly mind u no, it's not like I've already got too much to do is it I'm on a bloody holiday. sigh............ fuck it viva cumbia!

madness to methods: gaslamp killer high on life
I never knew that the world was so big and I never knew that people were the same
thank god thank the universe thank the energy that this gift was given to him. high on life yezzir! as for whether the music is for my brain or body I'll be the judge of that.
out 17/09 on ninja tune
can't wait for last night's recording to go on the boiler room website, planning some serious bedroom monkey skank. make sure you watch and listen to the music but also the words of wisdom he's got for u, this one's not just a mad jumping force of nature barely able to contain itself but also a wise man. one of the few sane people about far as I'm concerned

life is short. you get one
damn I don't seem to have time for anything any more wtf. I have to try n stop trying to do everybloodything . I now know that I will not go mad and pretty much anything (providing it's self inflicted) is survivable, the problem is the list of ongoing projects gets longer and longer but I don't get anything done. days weeks just go woosh! woosh woosh.... anyways anyways
it's exactly one year today since I stopped being the international frequency cordinator at space services of a regulator and vowed never to be anything with a job title again, at least not with one made up by someone else. and I've got better stuff to do than making up job titles trus me. a year of doing whatever the fuck I want whenever the fuck I want later I can tell you this: if there is something you really want to do do it. unless you love your job and realise your potential fuck it. fuck money, it won't make you happy. it sure does help a lot but you have to love what you do first. when it comes to time v money - time. hands down (geddit?). I've been seriously poor now for a while but life's never been gooder. fuck the system, serously. if it doesn't work for you don't work for it either. amen.
I love u tomoro u only a day away....
tomoro is a veryvery special anniversary. it's soso special there should be a really good party to celebrate it. incidentally...there is one. and it is tomoro already technically, thou I don't.. never mind. nite, I'll be back tomoro today whatever with the suggestion of the year that has worked for me for exactly one year now.

Que Sabroso!
in search for Ohmega Watts (whom I still haven't
found other than that one quite awesome track by the Sureshot people) I
stumble upon K Sabroso and tropical bass.
TROPICAL BASS! of course! strange I've not heard of that tag given that so much of the bass music I listen to and like is tropical as far as I am concerned. to quote a
blog I just discovered and will be following if I find time, we are living in a new musical and cultural
age, a constant mashup of the western and tropical world. No folklore
kitsch, no fake-authentic traditional music with funny hats on.
Global Bass with influences crossing continents on a daily basis.
Contemporary and real-time. yes! that's exactly where I live! but
then I'm made for tropical dontchano. and I don't mean holiday
and this guy, apparently a b-boy (ay
que rico!) from Indianapolis turned dj/remixer/producer, deals in exactly the kind. afrolatintropical with dollops of ...everything else that's good
the first word that came to mind when I heard
babina numa EP, K Sabroso's latest release on Rad Summer, was different.
it sure is tropical. it is cheerful and
uplifting and excited but not silly or shallow. there are deeper
darker things (of which the beautiful tribal chant is an obvious but
far from only example) at play for sure. just like the tropics. at
just 3:48 it is a very rich and multilayered track. the more I listen
to it the more layers I discover. I'm a bit slow admittedly and my
understanding of music is rather instinctive, which may be why this
one caught and mesmerised me straight away.
then there's 5 remixes and they are all dope. yes all of them. each
of the three shorter versions including the original would be too
short on its own but hey like I said there are 6, each very
different to the rest but they create an awesome whole. it's not often that I can listen to a EP
featuring remixes of one tune in one go (repeatedly!) but here I can
honestly recommend it. the way Senor Oz's haunting gruffness blends into Caballo's (nomen omen)
crazy gameboyish gallop straight into the jungle of the otherworldly bass cushioned chopped up chant of Skyshaker's take is insane! the whole thing is highly addictive. it will be popping in your head and chances
are you will like it and keep going back to the different remixes for
more of that unique atmosphere each one of them creates!
so ye, that's just the latest EP
now Garifunasty.... oh boy. I'd need to buy some time first but ain't nobody selling so I'll leave you with this gem for now (hehehe) wah wah!
there are people who walk thru this mad place like curious oversensitive children with adhd spotting great things, taking them, playing and rearranging but with respect without spoiling the elements, then return the resulting mixture to the world. and it retains the brilliance of the parts while being more that just a sum of them. this kid seems to be one of those. the stuff he does draws on many influences but never quite fits the description for any of the tags that come to mind and while I'm sure it would be great to hear at a pool party with a cocktail in your hand if you are that way inclined, that is not where it will take you. go.
and while you at it, have a look at some fractal insanity, you'll like that also

where is Ohmega Watts??
heaven tonight
so ye it's been confirmed. kind of.. the coup are playing a show in London on october 26 at Goldsmiths. whatever that means..... I guess they have a concert hall or something. looks like I've not been doing such a good job trying to introduce London to the coup... tsssssss
Internet doesn't seem to know about the gig (or Goldsmiths being a gig place) rather that Boots' fb and twitter, which I guess is as confirmed as it gets but I will rest assured that my biggest dream ever is about to come true when I have the ticket in my hand. till then I be nervous. you know how everything I get excited about falls thru? if the juju wanted to strike to kill now would be the time.
I just got myself a vinyl (a couple I guess) a book and a T. no mater how deep in shit I am I know I'd never forgive myself if I didn't. the opportunity to help out your hero doesn't pop up every day.
